The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries, Mr. Yacine Oualid, discussed this Monday with a Chinese delegation ways to cooperate in agriculture and food industries.
This came during Yacine Walid's reception of a high-level delegation from the Chinese province of Henan, led by the Vice Governor of the province, Mrs. Zhang Min.
In the presence of the Ambassador of China to Algeria, the two sides discussed potential cooperation in the following agricultural and food industry fields:
· Agricultural technology and smart farming
· Import and manufacturing of agricultural equipment
· Construction of grain storage facilities
· Development of food industries
According to the ministry's statement, both sides reviewed cooperation and partnership opportunities, and ways to realize them in the short and medium term, by enhancing trade exchanges.
Mrs. Min expressed Henan Province's interest in importing Algerian products, renowned for their high quality, to meet the needs of the Chinese market and neighboring markets.
This comes in light of the customs exemptions granted by China to African countries.
Algerian economic operators were invited to participate in the International Exhibition of Agriculture, Agricultural Equipment and Food Industries, scheduled to take place in Henan Province next October.
This event will provide an opportunity to introduce Algerian products, exchange expertise and experiences, and establish partnerships between economic operators active in the agricultural sector.
A draft agreement was also proposed between the National Institute of Agricultural Research in Algeria and a university from Henan Province.
The proposal aims to develop partnership in the field of agricultural research, particularly regarding the production of improved and resistant seeds.
Both sides lauded the distinguished historical relations binding the two countries, and the shared political will to strengthen partnership and cooperation between them.
Henan Province is one of the largest regional economies in the country, with a gross domestic product (GDP) exceeding 900 billion dollars.
Henan is also considered one of the most important agricultural provinces in China, contributing an annual production of over 65 million tons of grain.
