All necessary human, material, and logistical resources have been gathered as part of a large-scale field mobilization of all stakeholders to fight the forest fires affecting several of the country’s wilayas, according to a statement Tuesday from the Ministry of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport.
"Within the framework of the continuous efforts made by the State to fight forest, brush, scrub, and crop fires, and under the direct monitoring of the Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, Mr. Saïd Sayoud—who gave instructions to ensure the provision of all human, material, logistical, and aerial resources, and to strengthen coordination among the various stakeholders—firefighting operations continue in the wilayas affected by the fires as part of a general field mobilization," the same source specified.
To this end, "significant resources have been mobilized, including the Civil Protection mobile column, fire trucks, specialized teams, and an aerial fleet of water bomber aircraft and helicopters. This is in addition to the various security forces, the People's National Army (PNA), the General Directorate of Forestry (DGF), and local authorities, to ensure rapid intervention and limit the spread of flames."
"The Walis visited the sites of the fires to oversee intervention operations, monitor the implementation of firefighting plans, and ensure coordination between the various mobilized services." For his part, the Director General of Civil Protection, Colonel Boualem Bourelaf, traveled to the wilayas of Béjaïa and Sétif to closely monitor firefighting operations and assess the progress of field interventions, the statement added.
Firefighting operations are continuing "at a steady pace until all fire outbreaks are fully brought under control, while the state of mobilization and vigilance remains in place to protect citizens, their property, and the forest heritage," the statement concluded.
