President of the Republic: Algeria and Spain Agree to Continue Consultation, Dialogue, and Prioritizing Peaceful Solutions in Resolving Crises

The President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, affirmed this Monday that Algeria and Spain have agreed to continue dialogue and consultation, and to support UN and multilateral efforts to prioritize peaceful solutions in resolving crises and conflicts.       

In a joint press statement with the Spanish Prime Minister, Mr. Pedro Sánchez, the President explained that their talks provided an opportunity to exchange views on current regional and international issues. In this regard, he noted that they addressed "developments in the Middle East and the growing tension in the Gulf region, along with its repercussions on global food and energy security." 

In this context, the President of the Republic pointed out that he reiterated "Algeria's position that the solution can only be political and peaceful, in accordance with the rules of international law," adding: "We call for the resumption of negotiations and prioritizing the language of dialogue. At the same time, we emphasize that any solution must take into account the vital interests of Arab states." 

Regarding the Palestinian cause, the President stated: "I expressed to the Prime Minister our welcome and satisfaction with the honorable stance of the Spanish government toward this just cause." 

The discussions also touched upon the Western Sahara cause, the situation in the African Sahel region, as well as the crisis in Libya. On these matters, the President said: "We agreed to continue dialogue and consultation, and on the need to support UN and multilateral efforts to prioritize peaceful solutions to these crises and conflicts, in accordance with the dictates of international law and the rights guaranteed by the United Nations Charter."
