The President of the National Human Rights Council (CNDH), Maya Fadel Sahli, is participating on Tuesday in Yaoundé, Cameroon, in an academic course dedicated to the "Right to Nationality and the Eradication of Statelessness," according to a statement from the council.
During this event, organized by the African Union Commission and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) at the University of Central Africa in Yaoundé, Mrs. Sahli will deliver a lecture on "The Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights on the Specific Aspects of the Right to Nationality and the Eradication of Statelessness in Africa: Challenges and Prospects," the same source specified.
Drawing on her extensive career within the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights (from 2011 to 2023), Mrs. Fadel Sahli will speak in her capacity as the author of the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights on the Specific Aspects of the Right to Nationality and the Prevention of Statelessness in Africa.
Her presentation "will provide legal insight into this regional instrument and allow her to share her normative and field experience on this issue at the heart of contemporary human rights challenges, while shaping legal and institutional solutions adapted to African realities," the same source highlighted.
The participation of the CNDH President in this event reaffirms "Algeria's commitment to strengthening South-South cooperation and sharing inter-African experiences," the statement concluded.
