The Ministry of Youth has decided to suspend the use of tents in vacation and leisure centers under its sector due to exceptional weather conditions marked by record-breaking heatwaves, while ensuring care for all beneficiaries through the provision of alternative accommodation, the ministry said in a statement.
"Within the framework of the ongoing monitoring of vacation and leisure centers for the 2026 season, which are under the supervision of the Youth sector and host young Algerians as part of various summer camp programs, and following field visits carried out by the Minister of Youth, in charge of the Supreme Youth Council, Mustapha Hidaoui, to assess the impact of the exceptional weather conditions that caused record heatwaves, it was decided to suspend the use of tents in vacation and leisure centers under the sector," the same source specified.
Consequently, "care for all beneficiaries has been secured through the provision of alternative accommodation structures, mobilized in coordination with various partner sectors of the program, notably the ministries of the Interior, National Education, and Vocational Education and Training," the same source added.
This preventive measure aims to "guarantee the highest levels of safety and comfort for the children and youth beneficiaries, while ensuring the continuation of the national vacation and leisure program under the best possible conditions," according to the same source.
In this regard, the ministry also reaffirmed "the continuation of its program to modernize vacation and leisure centers by progressively equipping them with fire-resistant chalets and establishing more suitable accommodation structures to strengthen safety conditions and improve the quality of services provided to children and youth."
