The working and friendship visit paid to Algeria on Monday by the President of the Government of Spain, Mr. Pedro Sanchez, has garnered significant interest from the international press, which highlighted the determination of both countries to strengthen political dialogue, consolidate their economic partnership, and boost cooperation at regional and international levels.
Major Spanish media outlets commented extensively on Sanchez’s visit to Algeria and his talks with the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Republic, following the official welcoming ceremony.
The official news agency EFE, the daily El Periodico, the Cadena SER radio network, and the public television channel RTVE highlighted in their analyses the high-level discussions between the two parties, noting that they "constitute a cornerstone and a decisive step toward revitalizing bilateral relations, as well as launching a new phase of a comprehensive strategic partnership."
The Spanish press also emphasized that this direct bilateral meeting allowed both parties to open promising new perspectives for developing cooperation in various sectors, activating the mechanisms of a sustainable diplomatic dialogue, and strengthening political consultation on regional and international issues of common interest.
Spanish media analyses further noted that the talks between the two parties "reaffirmed Algeria’s strategic position as a primary and reliable ally for Spain," which was materialized by the agreement to hold a major bilateral summit in Madrid.
They particularly touched upon the importance of this visit and the high-level discussions, noting that they succeeded in establishing a solid foundation for a new phase in bilateral relations, opening promising avenues to deepen the strategic partnership, secure vital energy supplies, and strengthen political and security consultation to face common challenges in the Mediterranean.
For its part, the Arab press covered Mr. Sanchez’s visit to Algeria closely. The London-based Al-Araby Al-Jadeed focused on the mutual desire of both countries to build a political and economic partnership, supported by factors such as geographical proximity, their shared Mediterranean space, great flexibility in commercial and energy cooperation, as well as the need for coordination in combating drug trafficking and irregular migration.
Additionally, several other foreign media outlets reported on the Spanish Prime Minister's visit to Algeria. For instance, the Turkish news agency Anadolu ran the headline "Algeria Strengthens Its Energy Partnership With Spain," highlighting both countries’ determination to consolidate bilateral cooperation across several fields, particularly renewable energy.
In this regard, the Turkish outlet quoted excerpts from the statements of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, following the talks at the Presidency, where he stressed the desire of Algeria and Spain to build a "broader and deeper" cooperation in several areas, including renewable energy.
The Italian news agency ANSA also focused on the joint commitment of both countries to strengthen bilateral cooperation, expand partnership areas, and intensify political dialogue. It pointed out that Mr. Sanchez’s visit to Algeria also provided "an opportunity to exchange views on key regional and international issues of common interest."
