Civil Protection units succeeded in extinguishing 34 fires out of 56 recorded across several of the country's wilayas by 8:00 PM on Sunday, according to a report from the Civil Protection.
In its latest status update on forest, maquis, brushwood, crop, and oasis fires, the Civil Protection specified that 18 other fires have been controlled and placed under surveillance, while four active hotspots remain.
These active fires are located in the wilayas of Bejaia (1), Skikda (2), and El Tarf (1), where firefighting operations continue with the support of various mobilized forces and resources.
In Bejaia, Civil Protection teams are continuing their efforts to control a forest fire in the Tazerourt region of the Tizi N'Berber municipality.
In the wilaya of Skikda, interventions are also ongoing to put out a forest fire in the Taghouza-Ouled Yahia region, as well as a second blaze in the forested massifs of the Ikaroun, Lemnaqech, and Oued Boussaleh regions, within the municipality of Kanoua.
The same source specified that as part of precautionary measures, nearly 60 families were evacuated from the villages of Afensou and Aïn Sedma to safe areas.
Civil Protection services are also continuing operations to extinguish a forest fire in the Ouledj Mahboub region of the Zitouna municipality, in the wilaya of El Tarf.
