The Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, received on Sunday at the ministry's headquarters the Minister of African Integration, Foreign Affairs, and Senegalese Abroad of the Republic of Senegal, Mr. Cheikh Niang, who is on a working visit to Algeria, according to a ministry statement.
On this occasion, the two ministers held a one-on-one meeting, which was followed by an expanded bilateral working session involving delegations from both countries.
The statement indicated that these talks "allowed for a comprehensive evaluation of the state of Algerian-Senegalese relations and explored prospects for strengthening them across all priority fields, notably hydrocarbons, energy, pharmaceuticals, finance, higher education, scientific research, and vocational training, as well as boosting bilateral trade by leveraging the advantages offered by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA)."
In this regard, both parties agreed on the necessity of reactivating bilateral cooperation mechanisms to inject new momentum into their relations, particularly by preparing to convene the next session of the Algerian-Senegalese Joint Committee before the end of the current year, and reviving the Algerian-Senegalese Business Council.
According to the ministry’s statement, the meeting also provided a significant opportunity to exchange views and perspectives on current regional and international issues of mutual interest, foremost of which is the situation in the Sahel-Saharan region.
