The Ministry of Youth, in coordination with the Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energies, launched on Wednesday in Algiers a national awareness campaign on "rationalizing electricity consumption."

The event, launched at the "Lalla Fatma N'Soumer" vacation and leisure center in Staoueli, is part of the national program for summer camps during the 2026 season. It aligns with the educational project of these camps, which aims to instill educational values and citizenship among children and youth.

On this occasion, the Deputy Director for Promoting Partnerships with Sectors and Bodies at the Ministry of Youth, Alaa Eddine Merghad, pointed out that this campaign is part of national efforts to rationalize energy consumption, reinforcing "the principle of partnership and the transfer of experience in introducing best practices in energy consumption."

He added that the Ministry of Youth has designed a diverse program featuring numerous cultural, recreational, and educational activities. It includes workshops on discovering electricity production, rationalizing energy consumption, energy sources, and energy in daily life.

Mr. Merghad also noted that these workshops will be followed by field trips to facilities owned by the Sonelgaz group, where children can learn firsthand about energy production plants. He pointed out that activities will be organized at centers under the Ministry of Youth and youth institutions nationwide.

For his part, the Director of Training at the National Agency for Youth Leisure, Ismail Debbah, explained that within the framework of its pedagogical programs, the agency is working to "implement this initiative across 40 summer camp centers distributed over 14 coastal wilayas, in coordination with the Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energies and the Sonelgaz group."

He added that the agency has prepared pedagogical programs for both children and supervisors, centered on the "educational kit" developed under the guidance of the Minister of Youth. This kit contains programs promoting a culture of energy conservation and introducing different types of energy, especially clean and renewable energies.

In turn, the Distribution Director for the El Harrach district at Sonelgaz, Ouarti Belaid, explained that through this initiative, the Sonelgaz group seeks to "instill a culture of conscious and responsible use of electrical energy through a series of simple practical recommendations, most notably setting air conditioning units to 25°C and avoiding the use of high-energy-consuming household appliances during peak hours."
