A coordination meeting dedicated to monitoring the progress of structuring mining projects and their support initiatives was held on Tuesday among the ministries of Hydrocarbons; the Interior, Local Communities, and Transport; Mines and Mining Industries; and Water Resources.
The meeting, held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Hydrocarbons under the chairmanship of its Secretary General, Mr. Miloud Medjelled, and in the presence of the secretaries general of the other ministerial departments, focused on the Gara Djebilet iron ore mine project, the Integrated Phosphate Project, and projects to construct the support infrastructure necessary for extraction and production. Discussions centered particularly on mobilizing the water resources required for the various industrial units and strengthening rail transport and logistics capabilities to ensure the smooth flow of mining products between extraction, treatment, industrial processing sites, and export ports, the ministry said in a statement.
This meeting falls within the framework of implementing the directives of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, aimed at accelerating the completion rate of strategic mining projects and strengthening the country's industrial sovereignty.
During the meeting, participants also reviewed the measures taken to meet the requirements of the primary iron ore processing unit at Gara Djebilet, the iron concentrate production project in the Toumiat region (Bechar), and the phosphate treatment, processing, and recovery complexes in Bled El Hadba (Tébessa) and Oued Kebrit (Souk Ahras).
Within this framework, emphasis was placed on the need to continue strengthening water supply capacities in line with the various commissioning phases of these industrial facilities, the same source added.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to review the progress of mining transport projects, particularly programs to boost loading and transport capacities for iron ore and phosphate. This aims to support the operationalization of railway lines, manage the progressive rise in production, and ensure the delivery of raw materials and processed products to national industrial units and export ports, as part of establishing an integrated mining and industrial value chain.
The secretaries general affirmed that "the current phase requires a strengthening of field coordination between different sectors and concerned bodies, as well as the rapid resolution of all technical and administrative concerns, to guarantee compliance with the established schedule for the projects' entry into operation, in accordance with the instructions of the President of the Republic aimed at developing national mining resources, strengthening industrial integration, and increasing the mining sector's contribution to the diversification of the national economy."
At the conclusion of the coordination meeting, it was agreed to establish a periodic monitoring mechanism among the secretaries general of the concerned sectors. This mechanism will evaluate the progress of works, ensure permanent coordination among the various stakeholders, and take the necessary measures to accelerate the construction of infrastructure and support facilities until all projects are commissioned within the set deadlines, with a view to strengthening Algeria's position as a regional industrial and mining hub and consolidating the foundations of industrial security and national economic sovereignty, the ministry's statement concluded.
