The Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts, Houria Meddahi, chaired a coordination meeting at the ministry's headquarters dedicated to evaluating economic land destined for tourism investment, the ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
During the meeting, held Monday in the presence of central administration executives and the National Agency for Tourism Land (ANFT), the minister highlighted the major interest shown by the country's highest authorities in "accelerating the pace of economic land mobilization and making it effectively available to investment project holders."
In this regard, she emphasized that "the development of tourism in Algeria, particularly domestic and Saharan tourism, relies primarily on the availability of tourism land and the facilitation of investment in this field, while moving toward the realization of tourism projects that help create price competitiveness and strengthen investment through the support of digitalization."
On this occasion, the minister recalled the missions of the ANFT, as a public institution responsible for transforming natural potential into concrete and successful projects by making tourism land available on the digital investor platform, in coordination with the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency (AAPI).
During the meeting, a presentation was delivered on tourism land. The ANFT has identified "240 land plots destined to host investment projects. These plots, made available to AAPI, are distributed across 30 tourism zones and sites located in 19 wilayas, including land suitable for seaside, thermal, mountain, climatic, and Saharan tourism."
Subsequently, Mrs. Meddahi gave instructions to "accelerate the completion of the inventory and the updating of the status of tourism land, as well as the finalization of development and connection works of Tourism Expansion Zones (ZET) to various necessary utilities, alongside drafting the national map of investment projects, while encouraging investment formulas that do not require vast areas or complex developments."
She also insisted on the need to "precisely examine the legal and technical status of the various land plots and compile a list of priority projects requiring development, with a view to registering them under the draft finance law for the year 2027."
At the conclusion of the meeting, the minister reiterated the need to "direct these land plots toward hosting value-creating investment projects that contribute to the diversification of the local economy and the creation of jobs, while strengthening the competitiveness of Algeria as a tourist destination," according to the same source.
