Algerian international striker Monsef Bakrar (25) has officially finalized his transfer to the Egyptian football giants Al Ahly on Tuesday, arriving from Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb.
By securing the signature of the former ES Sétif player, the Egyptian powerhouse has completed its fourth major signing of the current summer transfer window.
The transfer cost the Red Devils €3 million, with an additional €500,000 to be paid in performance-related add-ons.
Following weeks of intense speculation, the club officially announced the acquisition of the forward, born on January 13, 2001, in Setif. The Algerian striker, who has earned 7 caps with the national team, is expected to join the squad immediately for their pre-season preparations.
The club's board, led by president Mahmoud El Khatib, was determined to land Bakrar as part of their strategy to bolster the team's attacking options. Consequently, Bakrar penned a three-year contract with Al Ahly, a club that consistently aims for dominance in both domestic and continental competitions.
The striker arrives in fine form, having made 42 appearances for Dinamo Zagreb last season, during which he impressively netted 18 goals and provided 7 assists.
Bakrar becomes the third Algerian player in history to don the famous Al Ahly jersey, following in the footsteps of Amir Sayoud and Ahmed Kendouci.
Amir Sayoud was the first Algerian to join the Cairo-based club in 2009, staying until 2011. During his stint, the playmaker struggled for game time, making only 13 appearances (432 minutes) across all competitions, registering a single assist without scoring.
More recently, midfielder Ahmed Kendouci joined Al Ahly from ES Sétif during the 2023 summer transfer window. Kendouci made 21 appearances for the Red Devils across all competitions, scoring two goals and providing three assists. He was subsequently loaned to Ceramica Cleopatra before permanently departing the club last season to join Swiss side FC Lugano.
