The Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Mourad Adjal, announced a vast development program yesterday, Tuesday, in Ghardaïa, aimed at improving public service in the electricity and gas sectors.
Speaking at a coordination meeting at the conclusion of his working visit to the wilaya, the Minister indicated that his department has drawn up a development program aimed at "improving public service in the fields of electricity and gas, through which the Ghardaïa wilaya will benefit from an installed energy capacity of 1,120 megavolt-amperes, with an electricity connection rate of 95% and a natural gas connection rate of 74%."
Mr. Adjal described the visit as part of a program designed to assess the performance level of energy and renewable energies, as well as the progress of energy and development projects across the various municipalities of the Ghardaïa wilaya.
He also announced significant funding allocated to the development of the energy sector in the wilaya, 70% of which will be dedicated to electricity connection projects and 30% to gas connection projects.
Furthermore, he added that two units under the National Society for Electricity and Gas (Sonelgaz) will be established in the municipalities of Zelfana and Mansoura in the first quarter of 2026, to facilitate bill payments for citizens and to handle potential technical disruptions.
regarding support for agricultural investment, the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies affirmed that efforts are continuing, in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries, to complete the connection of all farms in the wilaya to the electricity grid and to equip remote farms with solar panels.
