Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, participated this Monday in a ministerial meeting of the African Union Peace and Security Council, held via videoconference, according to a ministry statement.

The statement specified that "the meeting was dedicated to examining the serious developments occurring in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and discussing ways and prospects to strengthen the African Union's role and contribution in anchoring the desired peaceful solution to this crisis."

The statement added that the Minister insisted on "the need to direct the African Union's efforts toward three urgent priorities," namely "activating and consolidating the ceasefire," "strengthening political and diplomatic efforts between the conflicting parties," as well as "prioritizing the addressing of the conflict's root causes."

The Minister of State also highlighted "the importance of revitalizing all African mechanisms put in place to contribute to crafting a political solution to this crisis." He affirmed in this regard that "the African role must be complementary to international efforts that recently led to the conclusion of two important agreements, namely the Washington Agreement and the Doha Agreement," according to the same source.

Finally, Ahmed Attaf affirmed that "Algeria will remain firm in its commitment to support an African solution to this crisis, based on inclusive dialogue and full respect for the principles set forth in the United Nations Charter and the Constitutive Act of the African Union."
