Gold prices saw a slight decline at the start of the week’s trading on Monday as investors moved to take profits following recent gains, while silver continued its ascent to record new high levels.

During morning trading, gold fell by 0.1 percent to $4,527.79 per ounce, after hitting a record high in earlier transactions reaching $4,549.71.

Silver rose by 3.8 percent to $82.15 per ounce, having touched an all-time high of $83.62 earlier in the morning.

As for other precious metals, spot prices for platinum fell 0.8 percent to $2,429.10, after rising to an all-time high of $2,478.50, while palladium prices rose 0.1 percent to $2,003.83.

Since the beginning of the year, silver prices have jumped 181 percent, heading towards achieving their best annual performance since 1951. This surge is supported by increased industrial and investment demand, declining inventories, and supply constraints, outperforming gold, which rose 72 percent during the same period.
