Adjal Receives the Executive Director of the African Energy Commission

The Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Mourad Adjal, received on Wednesday the Executive Director of the African Energy Commission (AFREC), Rashid Ali Abdallah, with whom he discussed ways to enhance cooperation and partnership in the energy sector, according to a statement by the ministry.

This meeting, which falls within efforts to strengthen external cooperation, particularly on the continental level, took place at the ministry’s headquarters in the presence of its senior officials and a delegation from the African Energy Commission. The commission is a specialized body dedicated to developing energy efficiency strategies in Africa and supporting African Union member states in implementing energy transition programs by developing appropriate policies and strategies to boost investments in the continent's energy sector and meet sustainable development goals.

On this occasion, Mr. Adjal affirmed his ministerial department's interest in cooperating with the commission, particularly in the field of energy management, as it is one of the Algerian state's priorities and a foundation for the energy security program. This comes in addition to files regarding energy transition, green hydrogen, and solar energy, the same source added.

In this context, Mr. Adjal emphasized that his ministerial department "opens its doors to this important continental commission, in a way that allows it to benefit from its significant expertise in supporting and accompanying many energy projects established within the ministry's action plan."

For his part, the Executive Director affirmed the African Energy Commission's readiness to cooperate with the Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energies and accompany it by transferring its expertise in the development of various energy development programs to the Algerian side.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Mr. Adjal stated that a working meeting will be held in the coming days. During this meeting, the status of cooperation with the commission will be presented, and future areas of cooperation will be defined in accordance with the 2026 roadmap, according to the statement.
