The national carrier, Air Algérie, announced on Sunday the receipt of its second aircraft as part of its fleet renewal and expansion program.

Received at Houari Boumediene International Airport, the Airbus A330neo aircraft has been named “Gara Djebilet.” It is the second aircraft of this type to join the fleet, following the first unit received last November, which was named “Novembre 54.”

This type of aircraft is reserved for long-haul flights, which the airline is working to intensify by launching or strengthening several air routes, specifically to Canada, China, and South Africa.

The Airbus A330neo aircraft are distinguished by a capacity of over 300 passengers, distributed across different classes, as well as a 25% reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions compared to previous generations. They are also equipped with ultra-modern in-flight entertainment systems, including Wi-Fi internet connectivity.

With this new aircraft, Air Algérie's fleet now totals 56 planes, in addition to 15 aircraft belonging to its subsidiary, Domestic Airlines. This fleet is expected to undergo further expansion over the coming years.

This operation is part of the national carrier’s fleet renewal and expansion program launched in 2023. The program provides for the acquisition of eight (8) Boeing 737 MAX-9 aircraft and eight (8) Airbus A330-900neo aircraft, with the order for the latter subsequently increased to ten (10) units.

The program also includes the acquisition of sixteen (16) ATR 72-600 aircraft, intended to strengthen the domestic air transport network.

These measures align with Air Algérie’s action plan for 2035, which envisions additional acquisitions to meet the growing demand for air transport, both domestically and internationally.
