The National Rail Transport Company (SNTF) will soon provide two daily passenger services on the Bechar-Tindouf line, its Director General, Adj Bouaouni, announced on Monday in Bechar.
The SNTF will implement these daily rail services between Bechar and Tindouf immediately upon the official inauguration of this gigantic 950-kilometer railway project. The route crosses the provinces of Bechar, Beni-Abbes, and Tindouf, Mr. Bouaouni specified on the sidelines of a visit to Bechar dedicated to monitoring the rehabilitation and modernization works of the provincial capital's train station.
This station will also serve as a relay point for travelers coming from Tindouf and other areas in the country's southwest covered by the route of this mega-railway project—such as the Tabelbala station, located in the Beni Abbes province. From there, passengers will be able to benefit from rail connections to other cities in the north of the country, he explained.
The SNTF Director General highlighted that the ongoing rehabilitation and modernization works at the Bechar station are part of a national program involving similar interventions in 90 passenger stations across the national railway network. This project primarily aims to improve reception and transit conditions for users, he indicated.
According to the same official, entire sections of these stations, including the one in Bechar, will be fully modernized to better meet the expectations of travelers and transport operators. Emphasis will be placed on service quality, as well as the creation of spaces adapted for reception, rest, and transit under optimal conditions, he added.
It is worth noting that the SNTF currently operates a daily round-trip service between Bechar and Oran over a distance of 700 km from the Bechar station, as well as two daily services between Bechar and Abadla over a 100 km route, according to local SNTF officials.
