The Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts will organize a ceremony next Thursday to present the National Prize for Handicrafts and Trades 2025. The event aims to highlight the civilizational elements and authentic cultural identity of Algeria, according to a ministry statement released on Sunday.
The 22nd edition of this annual event, organized under the supervision of the Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts, serves to "enshrine a culture of excellence and innovation and reaffirm the sector's commitment to protecting, promoting, and developing the national artisanal heritage." It also seeks to "encourage national talents active in the field of handicrafts and strengthen their competitiveness through knowledge development, the stimulation of innovation, and the promotion of artisanal product quality."
This prize is part of "the national strategy for the development of the handicrafts and trades sector, aiming to strengthen its competitiveness at national and international levels, contribute to the diversification of the local economy, promote domestic tourism, and highlight Algeria's civilizational components and authentic cultural identity."
Furthermore, this edition saw "the participation of 620 artisans from different wilayas of the country, who presented 674 artisanal products. Of these, 303 artisans with 353 products were selected for the regional selection phase," the source added.
The national prize commission, "composed of representatives from partner sectors, as well as qualified experts and master artisans known for their expertise and professionalism, undertook its work to supervise the various selection stages. This ensured a participatory approach and an objective evaluation reflecting the spirit of excellence and upholding standards of quality and professionalism through regional selection meetings."
This process resulted in the "selection of 7 distinguished products for the National Prize for Handicrafts and Trades 2025, representing various artisanal specialties."
The event will feature "a ceremony honoring the artisans selected based on precise and unified criteria that ensure transparency and equal opportunity. These criteria notably include design quality, precision of execution, mastery of artistic techniques, quality of raw materials, respect for the authenticity of traditional usage, and the promotion of creativity and innovation based on reliable historical and heritage references," the statement concluded.
