The Secretary of State to the Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, in charge of Mines, Karima Bakir Tafer, has been participating since yesterday, Tuesday, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in the proceedings of the 5th edition of the Future Minerals Forum 2026 (FMF), indicated a ministry statement.

The Algerian delegation participating in this forum, which concludes tomorrow, Thursday, is placed under the theme "Minerals: Meeting the Challenges of a New Era of Development." The delegation includes the Chairman of the Steering Committee of the Geological Service Agency of Algeria (ASGA), Karim Mokhtar, as well as executives from the ministry.

Organized under the high patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, this international forum constitutes a high-level platform bringing together sector leaders, ministers in charge of mining affairs, decision-makers, and experts from countries around the world. The goal is to examine prospects for developing the minerals sector and strengthening its central role in supporting economic transformation and achieving sustainable development, the statement added.

Algeria's participation in this international event falls within the framework of its vision to promote the mining sector, strengthen its integration into global value chains, and intensify international cooperation and partnerships. This approach aims to contribute to enhancing the value of national mineral resources and supporting sustainable economic development objectives.

In this context, Ms. Tafer took part in the ministerial roundtable chaired by the Saudi Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, Bandar bin Ibrahim Alkhorayef. During this session, participants exchanged views on ways to strengthen international cooperation in the exploration and exploitation of mineral resources, develop value chains, and encourage responsible and sustainable investments in this strategic sector.

She also participated in the ministerial meeting of the member states of the Arab Industrial Development Standardization and Mining Organization (AIDSMO). This meeting was dedicated to discussing mechanisms for unifying Arab efforts, strengthening regional complementarity in the fields of industry and mining, and supporting joint initiatives to achieve sustainable economic development in Arab countries.

This edition of the FMF rests on three strategic pillars: the development of innovative financing models for mining infrastructure; capacity building in mineral-producing countries through the creation of networks of centers of excellence in geology and innovation; and the strengthening of transparency across supply and manufacturing chains.

The forum, which is seeing broad participation from over 100 countries and approximately fifty international organizations, as well as financial institutions and major mining companies, is expected to witness the signing of a significant number of memorandums of understanding and strategic agreements. This reflects the increased importance of the minerals sector in global economic and energy transformations.
