The "First Remed" laboratory has launched a project to cultivate medicinal plants, such as aloe vera and ginseng, in Touggourt. The initiative aims to reduce reliance on imported raw materials and strengthen local industrial integration, according to Youssef Ait Mohamed, the company’s Director of Medical Promotion.

Spanning a total area of 14 hectares and divided into seven greenhouses of two hectares each, the project—which has reached an 80% completion rate—focuses on the cultivation of aloe vera, ginseng, and ashwagandha. The official provided these details in a statement to APS on the sidelines of the first edition of the National Exhibition of Exported Products, which opened on Tuesday at the Oran Convention Center.

"First Remed," a company governed by Algerian law and operating under license from a German laboratory, expects the agricultural facility to begin production in June 2026. The estimated capacity is between 4 and 6 tonnes of ingredients intended for the parapharmaceutical industry.

This agricultural program relies on a transfer of know-how facilitated by the German laboratory partnering with First Remède, Mr. Ait Mohamed noted. He added that studies conducted within the framework of this project confirm that the climate in Touggourt is favorable for this type of cultivation.

First Remed, which is gaining a foothold in the national market through various ranges of cosmetic products and dietary supplements, intends to launch into exports. According to its director, the company plans to take advantage of the various facilities and support mechanisms the State has offered in recent years.

The laboratory currently reports a production output of over 200,000 units, with a capacity reaching up to 4 million units thanks to an integrated manufacturing process.

Leveraging this industrial and agricultural base, the laboratory plans to begin exporting its products to Tunisia and Libya starting in 2026, before targeting Sub-Saharan African markets, thereby contributing to the national drive to diversify non-hydrocarbon exports.
