The Director of the External Office of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Algeria, Othmane Ahmed Mohamed Salek, praised on Sunday in Jijel Algeria’s efforts to support and assist small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Speaking at the opening of a study day on “The Importance of Support in Enhancing Quality and Innovation in Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises,” organized at the National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality in Jijel by the National Consultative Council for the Development of SMEs (CNC DPME), the Director of WIPO’s External Office highlighted “the significant role and efforts made by Algeria in supporting and assisting SMEs.” He added that Algeria “has established a range of diversified mechanisms to accompany this category of enterprises and to foster innovation and creativity—mechanisms that do not exist in many countries.”
He also stressed “the importance for these enterprises of protecting their products, innovations, and identity through what is known as intellectual property, in order to guard against counterfeiting and to gain easier access to international markets.”
For his part, the Director of CNC DPME for the Jijel province, Mohamed Bouzekri, stated that the aim of this study day, which was attended by artisans and professionals working in the cork and medicinal and aromatic oils sectors, is to “strengthen support and enable the obtaining of a specific trademark for each activity, facilitating export operations.”
