The national football team of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) arrived Tuesday evening at Houari Boumediene International Airport in Algiers. The team is preparing for a friendly match against Algerian football legends next Friday at the Nelson Mandela Stadium, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Sahrawi Republic.
The Sahrawi delegation consists of 22 players, a six-member technical staff, five officials from the Sahrawi Ministry of Youth and Sports, and three members of the Sahrawi Sports Federation.
Former Algerian football stars will face the Sahrawi national team in an exhibition match next Friday at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers, kicking off at 16:30. Organized by the Algerian National Committee for Solidarity with the Sahrawi People, this match marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic and aims to strengthen the values of brotherhood and solidarity between the two peoples.
Bouaziz Samir, a member of the Algerian National Committee for Solidarity with the Sahrawi People, emphasized the importance of this exhibition match within the framework of the SADR’s founding anniversary. He noted that the event sincerely reflects the solidarity of all Algerians with the Sahrawi people and their struggle for self-determination.
For his part, the President of the Sahrawi Sports Federation, Ahmed Baba Yahya Bohubeini, confirmed that the Sahrawi team's second visit to Algeria carries humanitarian dimensions. He stated that the goal is to establish the team's presence in continental and international competitions, noting that the circumstances surrounding the founding of the Sahrawi national team parallel those of the FLN (National Liberation Front) team, serving to amplify the voice of the Sahrawi people.
Additionally, the establishment of the Sahrawi Football Federation will be officially announced tomorrow, Wednesday, at the Mazafran Hotel in Algiers.
It is worth noting that this exhibition match, organized under the slogan "Sports at the Heart of Just Causes," will take place on Friday, February 13, at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Baraki, Algiers, starting at 16:30.
