Army General Saïd Chanegriha, Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defense and Chief of Staff of the People's National Army (PNA), received the Chief of Staff of the Italian Army, Chief of the Army General Staff Masiello Carmine, on Tuesday in Algiers, according to a statement from the Ministry of National Defense (MDN).
"Army General Saïd Chanegriha, Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defense and Chief of Staff of the PNA, received this Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at the PNA General Staff headquarters, Chief of the Army General Staff Masiello Carmine, Chief of Staff of the Italian Army, who is paying a working visit to Algeria leading a military delegation," the same source specified.
"During this meeting, attended by Major Generals and Generals from the Ministry of National Defense and the PNA General Staff, alongside members of the Italian delegation, the two parties discussed opportunities for bilateral military cooperation, as well as ways and means to strengthen coordination on issues of common interest. The two parties also exchanged views on various current issues."
For his part, Chief of the Army General Staff Masiello Carmine expressed "his warm thanks for the hospitality extended to him and his accompanying delegation, and expressed his satisfaction with the willingness shown by the Algerian side to further consolidate cooperation relations and consultations between the two countries in areas of common interest," the statement added.
At the end of the meeting, "the two parties exchanged symbolic gifts."
Furthermore, and "at the headquarters of the Land Forces Command, Major General Messahel Ahcène, Chief of Staff of the Land Forces, held a working meeting with the Chief of Staff of the Italian Army, in the presence of executives from the Land Forces Command and members of the Italian delegation," the same source noted. It added that "the two parties exchanged views on ways to consolidate bilateral military cooperation in various aspects related to Land Forces, before praising the quality of bilateral relations maintained by the armies of both countries."
"It should be recalled that Chief of the Army General Staff Masiello Carmine visited the Martyr's Sanctuary earlier today, where he laid a wreath of flowers and observed a moment of silence in homage to our valiant Martyrs," concluded the MDN statement.
