A technical team from the Nigerien electricity company, Nigelec, arrived in Algiers this Tuesday to undergo integrated training at Sonelgaz Services. The program aims to provide the necessary expertise to operate power plants that Algeria will construct in Niger, according to a statement from the public group Sonelgaz.
According to the statement, the technical team will undergo an integrated training at the Engineering Training School, a subsidiary of Sonelgaz Services located in the wilaya of Adrar, for a period of three weeks. The program aims to equip them with the requisite expertise to operate the power plants that Algeria will construct in Niger. This initiative follows the directives of the President of the Republic of Algeria, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to activate cooperation between Algeria and Niger, pursuant to the Nigerien President's recent visit to Algeria last February.
As part of the visit's program, a preparatory meeting was held for the Nigerien delegation at the Sonelgaz Training Center in Ben Aknoun, where a presentation was given on the services provided by Sonelgaz Services. Following this, the team visited the National Control Center (System Operator), where they received detailed briefings on the management and control system of the electrical grid, the same source added.
This significant step follows a series of preparations aimed at ensuring the success of this cooperation, notably a high-level videoconference meeting between officials from both companies. During the meeting, they discussed ways to accelerate the pace of cooperation and partnership between the two countries, particularly concerning the finalization and adoption of agreements currently under study.
According to the statement, this initiative is also part of the Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energies' program, implemented through Sonelgaz, to relaunch cooperation with Nigelec. This program covers several areas, most notably supporting the electrical grid in Niger and transferring Algerian expertise across various disciplines through specialized training services.
In the same context, a delegation of technical experts from the Sonelgaz Group had traveled to the Nigerien capital, Niamey, as part of the power plant construction project and to provide technical and logistical support to Nigelec. During the visit, a joint action plan was finalized, and two teams representing the Ministry, Sonelgaz, and Nigelec were formed to accelerate the pace of implementation and ensure coordination among the various stakeholders.
