At least 11,729 tourists flocked to various tourist sites in the wilaya of Ghardaïa during the 2025/2026 Saharan tourism season, including 3,729 foreign tourists, according to the Directorate of Tourism and Handicrafts.
This influx particularly concerns the ancient Ksour , some of which are classified as tangible heritage by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Their urban landscapes are distinguished by a blend of authentic architectural heritage and enchanting nature, also featuring several urban characteristics, including their buildings and narrow streets, which spark tourists' curiosity to uncover the secrets of that unique architecture.
To accommodate these tourists, 32 hotel establishments with a capacity of over 2,600 beds were mobilized, in addition to 57 dormitories with 1,450 beds, as well as social service institutions such as the Mujahidine Rest Center, the Post and Telecommunications Workers Center, and the Rest Center of the National Company for Electricity and Gas (Sonelgaz), as explained by the Sector Director, Saad Meriah.
It also involves the "homestay" formula, which amounts to around 21 residences at the level of the wilaya of Ghardaïa. Here, the local resident places at the tourist's disposal a dwelling equipped with various necessary amenities and services. These residences are usually characterized by their architectural style inspired by the region's heritage, thereby contributing to the promotion of local cultural legacy.
The tourism sector is considered one of the pillars of local development in the wilaya of Ghardaïa, which abounds with significant tourism potential. This has enabled it to enjoy a prestigious position in Saharan tourism, being the gateway to the desert, oases, and ancient Ksour scattered across the south, and serving as a tourist corridor for those wishing to travel to the southern and deep southern wilayas.
