The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries, Yacine El-Mahdi Oualid, presided on Wednesday over a national meeting bringing together the directors of the Cereals and Pulses Cooperatives (CCLS) and executives from the Algerian Interprofessional Office for Cereals (OAIC). The meeting was dedicated to preparing for the 2025-2026 harvesting-threshing campaign, scheduled to launch in mid-April, a ministry statement indicated.

This meeting provided an opportunity to evaluate the plowing and sowing operations of the current season and to examine the evolution of crops in terms of emergence rates across the different regions of the country, the same source specified.

As part of the preparations for the launch of the harvesting-threshing campaign, scheduled to begin on April 12 in the southern wilayas, a presentation was given on the level of preparedness of the CCLSs to receive the harvests in the best conditions. This includes the mobilization of necessary logistical resources, such as combine harvesters and trucks for transporting and routing the production, in addition to defining collection points and strengthening the storage capacities mobilized for this purpose.

In this vein, the minister emphasized "the importance of proactive and rigorous preparation for this campaign in all its aspects, with the need to mobilize logistical resources from the public sector and reinforce them with private sector capacities, particularly regarding trucks, warehouses, and storage spaces." Furthermore, he recommended equipping combine harvesters with grain loss detection devices during the harvest to reduce production losses.

Mr. Oualid also gave instructions to "immediately launch the drafting of a comprehensive and precise plan, defining the distribution of logistical resources and harvest collection points, in addition to organizing production transfer operations between wilayas, based on needs and available capacities."

Regarding the strengthening of agricultural mechanization, steps will be taken starting this season to support and modernize agricultural equipment. This follows the creation of a specialized subsidiary of the Agrodiv group—in implementation of the instructions of the President of the Republic—which is tasked with providing a diversified fleet of modern combine harvesters and various agricultural equipment.

A special program for the development of pulse production will also be launched as part of the application of the crop rotation system, thereby contributing to increasing national production, improving yield per hectare, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.

During this meeting, the minister recalled a set of measures that will be adopted starting next season to improve the performance of the cereals and pulses sector, emphasizing that preparations for the next plowing and sowing campaign are beginning right now.

He also discussed the main planned reforms, led by the revision of the agricultural inputs support system, the generalization of soil and fertilizer analyses, and the introduction of new high-yield seed varieties tailored to the specificities of different production areas, particularly in terms of soil type and climatic conditions.
