The Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union, and Cooperation of the Kingdom of Spain, Mr. José Manuel Albares Bueno, emphasized this Thursday that Algeria is a "strategic partner" and a "friend" with whom Spain maintains human relations and common interests, particularly regarding stability in the Mediterranean and Africa.
In a statement following the audience granted to him by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the Spanish Minister indicated that his visit to Algeria "confirms once again the privileged nature of our relations with Algeria, a neighbor with which we share close ties".
"Algeria is a strategic partner and, above all, a friend with whom we maintain human relations and common interests, particularly regarding the future and stability in the Mediterranean and Africa," he specified, expressing his gratitude for the "warm welcome and hospitality" he received in Algeria.
Addressing the cultural and human dimension, the Spanish Minister highlighted the importance of language and cultural relations in bringing the two peoples closer together. In this regard, he announced that he will travel to Oran on Friday for the inauguration of a new Cervantes center.
On the economic front, Mr. Albares welcomed the excellence of bilateral relations, marked by a "sharp increase" and "annual growth" in trade exchanges between the two countries.
"In 2025, the volume of trade reached 8.5 billion euros," he recalled, adding that Spanish exports to Algeria "tripled last year compared to the previous year".
Highlighting the "dynamism" of economic cooperation, the Minister pointed out the presence of more than 100 Spanish companies in the Algerian market. He announced that a meeting will be held on Thursday evening with Spanish business leaders established in Algeria to "continue this same momentum".
