The Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union, and Cooperation, Mr. José Manuel Albares, highlighted that dialogue and cultural exchange will strengthen the Algerian-Spanish friendship.
This was stated in a press briefing on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Spanish Cultural Center Cervantes today, Friday, in Oran.
Albares emphasized the depth of bilateral relations and the strategic partnership linking Algeria and Spain.
He reaffirmed that Algeria is considered "a friendly country, a neighbor, and a strategic partner".
Albares expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome he received from the Algerian authorities.
Albares noted the shared history and deep-rooted ties between the two countries, particularly the Andalusian heritage.
He emphasized the pivotal role of language and dialogue as tools for understanding and for building a world governed by peace, especially in light of the current complex international circumstances.
He pointed to the historical and invaluable influence of the Arabic language on Spanish, as a result of centuries of coexistence and exchange in the Mediterranean basin.
Albares linked the aforementioned to the status of Spanish as a "language rich in shared memory," stating that it serves as a vital bridge connecting Europe to America and Africa.
He also noted that the Spanish language is spoken by more than 500 million people worldwide.
The Spanish official noted the growing interest in learning his country's language across the African continent as a tool for personal development, cooperation, and development.
The Spanish Minister concluded his statement by paying tribute to the Algerians interested in Spanish culture, particularly language professors and students.
He highlighted that the new cultural landmark in Oran will contribute to strengthening the shared space.
It is noted that Albares was accompanied by the Ambassador of Algeria to Spain, Mr. Abdelfetah Daghmoum, and the Ambassador of Spain to Algeria, Mr. Ramiro Fernández Bachiller. This was in addition to the Director of Culture and Arts for Oran, Ms. Bouchra Salhi.
