The Director General of the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency (AAPI), Omar Rekkache, chaired a working meeting today, Tuesday, in Algiers, dedicated to following up on the iron ore valorization project at the Gara Djebilet mine, considering it among the strategic structuring projects in Algeria, according to a statement from the agency.

The same source clarified that the meeting took place at the agency's headquarters in the presence of the CEO of the National Company for Mining Research and Exploitation (SONAREM) Group, Reda Belhadj, and the Vice President of the Tosyali Algeria Group, Alp Topçuoğlu, alongside a representative from the General Directorate of National Estates and AAPI executives.

During the meeting, the progress of the iron ore valorization project was reviewed. According to the statement, this project falls within the national vision aimed at developing the iron and steel sector by processing Gara Djebilet ore and producing concentrated iron using advanced dephosphorization technologies, with an estimated annual production capacity of 4 million tons.

The statement indicated that this project, implemented by the joint venture FTTF, is the fruit of a partnership between the SONAREM Group subsidiary, the National Iron and Steel Company (FERAAL), and the Tosyali Algeria Group, with an investment exceeding $750 million.

The project is expected to contribute to creating at least 760 direct jobs, in addition to thousands of indirect jobs, which will support economic dynamics at both the local and national levels, the same source added.

The meeting also addressed the practical aspects related to the project's implementation in the wilaya of Bechar, as it is part of the integrated Gara Djebilet mine project. This is expected to serve as a real lever to revive national heavy industry, reduce import dependency, and enhance the country's industrial and mineral security.

In this context, Mr. Rekkache affirmed AAPI's commitment to supporting this project through its various stages. This will be achieved particularly by facilitating the acquisition of necessary permits and enabling it to benefit from economic land, as well as tax and parafiscal incentives, thereby helping to accelerate its entry into operation, the statement concluded.
