Algeria and Tunisia discussed, on Wednesday in Algiers, ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the fields of energy, hydrocarbons, mining, and renewable energies. The talks focused on electrical interconnection projects and the extraction and processing of phosphate products, according to a joint statement from the Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Mines, and the Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energies.
This took place during the reception of the President of the National Council of Regions and Districts of the Republic of Tunisia, Mr. Imed Derbali—who is on an official visit to Algeria leading a parliamentary delegation—by the Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mining, Mr. Mohamed Arkab, and the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Mr. Mourad Adjal, at the Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Mining headquarters.
The statement clarified that the meeting, which was held in the presence of the Secretary of State to the Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mining in charge of Mines, Mrs. Karima Bakir Tafer, alongside the Vice-President of the Council of the Nation, Mr. Rabah Beghali, and several senior officials from both ministries, was dedicated to reviewing the current state and future prospects of bilateral cooperation in the fields of energy, hydrocarbons, mining, and renewable energies.
The same source added that the talks addressed the current state and prospects of cooperation in the fields of energy, hydrocarbons, mining, and renewable energies—described as historical. They explored ways to strengthen and develop these relations, particularly in the production and marketing of hydrocarbons, electricity generation and transmission, as well as new and renewable energies and energy transition.
The two sides also discussed the progress of joint projects between the two countries, particularly the project to strengthen the electrical interconnection between Algeria and Tunisia. Additionally, they explored cooperation opportunities in the mining sector, specifically in the extraction and processing of phosphate products, as well as the exchange of expertise and training.
The statement noted that the two ministers presented, on this occasion, an overview of the main lines of the development programs for both sectors. They expressed their readiness to strengthen cooperation between the institutions of the two countries, in line with the will of the leaders of both nations to establish an effective and sustainable economic partnership.
