The Hydrocarbons Regulatory Authority (ARH) and the African Petroleum Producers' Organization (APPO) discussed launching an initiative to establish a forum for hydrocarbons regulatory bodies across the continent, according to a statement released by the Authority this Sunday.

This came during a meeting in which the President of the ARH, Mr. Amine Remini, received the Secretary-General of the APPO, Mr. Farid Ghazali, earlier this April. The meeting addressed topics of mutual interest, particularly the Authority's mandates and expertise in regulating and monitoring hydrocarbon activities, according to the same source.

During this meeting, Mr. Ghazali presented an overview of the stakes and challenges facing energy markets, including the African market. Discussions centered on the anticipated launch of the African Regulators Forum.

The President of the ARH praised this initiative, which 'primarily aims to unify rules and best practices in the hydrocarbons sector.

For its part, the APPO confirmed in a statement that both parties “noted a convergence of views on the importance of this initiative, emphasizing the need to include it within a clear roadmap based on specific stages, priorities, and milestones”.
