The Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Mr. Mourad Adjal, held a meeting on Wednesday via videoconference with the Minister of Mines, Petroleum, and Energy of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, and current President of the Ministerial Meeting of the African Petroleum Producers Organization (APPO), Mr. Mamadou Sangafowa Coulibaly, to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries, according to a ministry statement.

This meeting comes “in implementation of the directives of the President of the Republic of Algeria, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, aimed at promoting and expanding the horizons of international partnership and strengthening cooperation at the continental level, and as a follow-up to the cooperation file with the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire,” according to the statement.

It also falls within the framework of the visit paid by the Ivorian Minister to Algeria and his meeting with the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies on March 28th, where ways and possible cooperation opportunities between Algeria and Côte d'Ivoire in the energy field were discussed, the same source added.

During the meeting, held with the participation of the Ambassador of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire to Algeria and several officials from both sides, the current state of the energy systems in both countries and their development prospects were reviewed. The Ivorian Minister praised the results of his visit to Algeria, expressing his country's interest in Algeria's pioneering experience in the energy field and its desire to benefit from it by establishing practical partnerships that would support energy development in Côte d'Ivoire.

For his part, Mr. Adjal affirmed Algeria's will to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries and open broader horizons for partnership in various fields, particularly production, distribution, and transmission, in addition to the manufacturing and export of equipment to the African market, as well as the fields of training and maintenance.

The Minister also reaffirmed Algeria's keenness to elevate bilateral cooperation to levels that align with efforts to support energy development in the African continent and strengthen regional energy security, emphasizing Algeria's readiness to establish strategic and reliable partnerships within short timeframes, the statement explains.

The meeting's proceedings culminated in an agreement to organize a visit for a delegation of Ivorian technicians to Algeria to study and identify cooperation fields and opportunities with their Algerian counterparts. Decisions defining the axes and mechanisms of this cooperation will subsequently be made within a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to be signed between the officials of the two sectors as soon as possible, according to the same source.
