The President of the People's National Assembly, Mr. Ibrahim Boughali, showcased this Wednesday, in Istanbul (Türkiye), Algeria's experience in urban development. This experience is based on a comprehensive strategic vision led by the country's high authorities, according to a statement from the Assembly.
In his address during the 5th Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Parliamentary Network, held on the sidelines of the 152nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) under the theme “The Role of Parliaments in Ensuring Resilient Urban Development against Climate Change in NAM Countries,” Mr. Boughali showcased “the Algerian experience in the field of urban development”.
In this regard, Mr. Boughali explained that this experience is based on a “comprehensive strategic vision led by the country's high authorities, focusing on achieving a balance between environmental, economic, and social dimensions”. He noted that Algeria's approach in this matter “stems from a firm conviction of the necessity of achieving true climate justice”.
In the same vein, Mr. Boughali touched upon “the initiatives launched by Algeria at the regional level, most notably the project to establish an African Civilian Force for Disaster Response to ensure a collective and effective reaction. He also highlighted energy interconnection projects with Sahel countries, the rehabilitation of the Green Dam, and land reclamation efforts, all of which contribute to enhancing food security and environmental sustainability”.
On the sidelines of the 152nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Mr. Boughali met with the Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana, Mr. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, and the President of the Senate of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire, Mrs. Kandia Camara.
