The Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, Mr. Said Sayoud, presided this morning over the official installation of the members of the National Committee for the Prevention and Combating of Neighborhood Gangs for the 2026–2029 term. The ceremony took place in the presence of representatives from various security and ministerial sectors, marking a step that reflects the state's firm commitment to strengthening security and stability and confronting all phenomena that threaten social cohesion.
In his speech on the occasion, the Minister emphasized that this installation is not a routine procedure but represents a renewed start for a decisive national path to confront the phenomenon of neighborhood gangs, which continue to pose a real threat to the security of citizens and the tranquility of neighborhoods.
The Minister stressed that prevention remains the strategic choice within a comprehensive approach based on the integration of awareness and deterrence. In this context, he highlighted the pivotal role of security services in tackling this phenomenon, expressing his appreciation and gratitude for their continuous efforts in protecting citizens and their property.
Furthermore, the Minister highlighted that the vision of the President of the Republic was comprehensive and integrated in addressing this phenomenon, through the establishment of a specific legal framework and the strengthening of management mechanisms via the National Committee at the central level and the wilaya committees at the local level.
The National Committee is specifically tasked with preparing and implementing a comprehensive national strategy based on an accurate diagnosis of the phenomenon. This strategy targets various spaces, notably the school environment, neighborhoods, youth centers, mosques, and the digital sphere, with a focus on prevention, awareness, and early warning mechanisms.
The Minister also praised the effective awareness-raising role played by various actors, emphasizing the importance of utilizing social media to spread awareness and develop a preventive discourse that aligns with the interests of youth, contributing to the reduction of delinquent and violent behaviors.
In concluding his speech, the Minister officially announced the installation of the committee, calling for a collective mobilization involving all actors—families, schools, mosques, civil society, and the media. He affirmed that confronting the phenomenon of neighborhood gangs is a shared responsibility that requires coordinated efforts and intensified field work to achieve the desired goals.
