The Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons, Mr. Mohamed Arkab, received today, Tuesday, in Algiers, the Executive Secretary of the Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE), Mr. Andrés Rebolledo Smitmans, who is on a working visit to Algeria on April 21 and 22. The talks culminated in the signing of a cooperation roadmap between the two parties, according to a ministry statement.
The same source clarified that the signed roadmap aims to establish a practical framework for strengthening the partnership by launching joint projects and expertise exchange programs. This initiative is designed to support sustainable development and enhance energy integration between Algeria and the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean.
The statement noted that the meeting took place in the presence of the CEO of Sonatrach, Mr. Noureddine Daoudi, the President of the National Agency for the Valorization of Hydrocarbon Resources (ALNAFT), Mr. Samir Bakhti, the President of the Hydrocarbon Regulatory Authority (ARH), Mr. Amine Remini, and officials from the ministry.
The two parties reviewed existing cooperation relations, which date back to Algeria joining the organization as an observer in 2001, before obtaining permanent observer status in 2018. They emphasized a mutual will to elevate these ties, particularly in the fields of exploration, production, resource valorization, training, research, and development.
The two sides also exchanged views on developments in global oil and gas markets, emphasizing the importance of strengthening coordination among producing countries to ensure security of supply and the stability of international markets.
In this context, Mr. Arkab reaffirmed Algeria's commitment to supporting international dialogue and cooperation, particularly within the framework of South-South cooperation, to address the challenges facing the energy sector. He called for balanced approaches that take into account the specificities of developing nations and support a fair and sustainable energy transition without compromising energy security.
For his part, the Executive Secretary praised the role played by Algeria in the hydrocarbons sector, hailing its expertise and position as a reliable partner. He further commended its contribution to supporting human resource development programs and promoting research and innovation within the organization.
