Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Lounès Magramane, co-chaired today in the Italian capital, Rome, along with his Italian counterpart, Mr. Riccardo Guariglia, the proceedings of the fifth session of the Algerian-Italian Strategic Dialogue on bilateral relations and comprehensive political and security issues.
This session, which brought together representatives from various sectors and bodies of both sides, falls within the context of the regular political consultation mechanism between the two countries. It provided a renewed opportunity to evaluate the course of bilateral cooperation across various fields and to review achievements made since the previous session held in Algiers in June 2025, in light of the outcomes adopted during the recent official visit of the President of the Italian Council of Ministers to Algeria in March 2026, and the fifth intergovernmental summit held in Rome in July 2025.
The discussions allowed for evaluating various aspects of bilateral cooperation, particularly in political, security, economic, energy, agricultural, industrial, and cultural domains, with both sides noting with satisfaction the positive results achieved on several vital fronts. They also addressed ways to advance the strategic partnership between the two nations toward promising horizons, in line with the steps endorsed by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and the President of the Italian Council of Ministers, Mrs. Giorgia Meloni.
In this regard, "the two sides praised the progress achieved in implementing the Mattei Plan and affirmed their keenness to accelerate the implementation of joint strategic projects that would establish a new model of cooperation between the two shores of the Mediterranean," according to the statement.
During the same session, "the two parties addressed current regional and international developments, exchanging views on updates regarding the Mediterranean region, Libya, Western Sahara, the Sahel-Saharan region, as well as the Middle East," reaffirming "their commitment to peaceful solutions to conflicts in accordance with the principles of international law and the UN Charter," as noted in the ministry's statement.
The session concluded with "affirming the shared political will to continue strengthening the strategic partnership, implementing the recommendations arising from it, and preparing for upcoming bilateral events, chief among them the sixth high-level Algerian-Italian Intergovernmental Summit scheduled to take place next year in the capital, Algiers."
