The 16th edition of the International Fair for Tourism, Travel, Transport, Hotel Equipment, and Catering Services, "SIAHA 2026," was inaugurated on Tuesday at the "Mohamed Benahmed" Convention Center in the wilaya of Oran.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Khadra Fenninech, representing the Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts, Houria Meddahi.

This major economic event is marked by the participation of more than 230 national exhibitors along with participants from several foreign countries, including Tunisia, Turkey, Egypt, Spain, Belgium, and Zimbabwe.

Organized under the patronage of the Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts, Houria Meddahi, and in the presence of the Wali of Oran, Brahim Ouchène, the show brings together key players from across the tourism sector. It aims to promote "Destination Algeria," highlight the country’s vast potential, foster the exchange of expertise and services, and explore new growth opportunities.

Ms. Fenninech, the Ministry's Director of Information Systems and Statistics, stated to the press that one of the ministry's top priorities is to enable Algerian families to spend their holidays within the country at competitive prices.

She also emphasized the importance of encouraging alternative forms of accommodation, such as homestays—particularly in Saharan regions—while focusing on sustainable tourism and eco-friendly lodging to preserve the cultural heritage and natural beauty of the country's South.

For his part, the fair’s commissioner, Daoudi Noureddine, noted that this event serves as a platform to strengthen professional networks, value national tourism potential and handicraft industries, and promote local production within the hotel and catering equipment sector.

The fair, organized by the "ASTRA" Event and Communication Agency, features two main pavilions. The first is dedicated to tourism, travel, transport, and offers from tourism agencies, hotels, tourist complexes, and booking centers, as well as airlines, maritime transport companies, tourism offices, banking institutions, insurance companies, medical tourism, and training establishments.

The second pavilion showcases hotel and catering equipment and services, highlighting national production in the manufacturing of professional kitchens, ovens, textiles, bedding, hospitality items, and laundry equipment, in addition to artisanal and food products.

SIAHA16 will continue until April 23, featuring a rich program of conferences on themes such as "Digitalization in Tourism," "Promoting Destination Algeria," and "Digital Marketing Strategies." It also includes practical workshops on online booking systems, hotel architectural design, and the impact of digital platforms on the hospitality sector.
