The Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons, Mohamed Arkab, received this Sunday in Algiers a parliamentary delegation from the Republic of Azerbaijan led by the Chairman of the Azerbaijan-Algeria Parliamentary Friendship Group and Chairman of the Youth Committee of the National Assembly, Shahin Ismayilov, where the two parties discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the hydrocarbons sector and expand partnership areas between the two countries, according to a statement from the ministry.
During this meeting, held in the presence of the Chairman of the Algeria-Azerbaijan Friendship Group at the National People's Assembly, Abdelbasset Gharbi, and ministry officials, both sides emphasized the "friendly and excellent" nature of bilateral relations, with a focus on developing cooperation in the fields of well services, field development, hydrocarbon transport, refining, and petrochemicals, as well as various activities related to the oil and gas industry.
Both parties also stressed the importance of enhancing the exchange of expertise, experience, and training, particularly in oil and gas industry professions, which would support the development of human competencies and improve performance across the various links of the value chain.
In the same context, the two sides reviewed investment and partnership opportunities between the companies of both countries, particularly between the Sonatrach group and the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), while discussing mechanisms to intensify cooperation and the exchange of technical and technological expertise.
The meeting also served as an occasion to recall the memorandum of understanding signed between the two countries in November 2022 in Algiers, emphasizing the need to activate it on the ground to open new horizons for cooperation and strengthen the bilateral strategic partnership in the hydrocarbons field.
Furthermore, the two parties exchanged views on developments in global oil and gas markets, underscoring the importance of continued coordination and consultation within the framework of OPEC+ and the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, to contribute to supporting market stability and ensuring energy supply security.
