The Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons, Mr. Mohamed Arkab, received today, Monday, at the ministry's headquarters, the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, Mr. Christopher Landau, who is on a working visit to Algeria, according to a statement from the ministry.

The same source explained that during this meeting, which took place in the presence of the CEO of Sonatrach, Mr. Noureddine Daoudi, and officials from the ministry, both parties discussed the state of bilateral Algerian-American cooperation and prospects for its enhancement, particularly in the hydrocarbons sector. They also explored ways to expand cooperation into other areas of mutual interest, such as the manufacturing of equipment and tools related to the oil and gas industry. Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening dialogue and cooperation between the two countries to serve their mutual interests and contribute to achieving sustainable and balanced development.

The statement added that during the talks, Mr. Arkab emphasized the importance of existing exchanges and consultations between Algerian and American companies, particularly between Sonatrach and both ExxonMobil and Chevron. He called for expanding cooperation to include downstream industries and modern technologies, especially those related to emission reduction, as well as research and development, innovation, and the exchange of expertise and training in advanced oil and gas technologies. Furthermore, the Minister of State reviewed the strategy for developing Algeria's hydrocarbons sector, which focuses on intensifying exploration efforts, increasing production capacities, and resource valuation. This strategy also aims at developing petrochemical industries and enhancing local content, while providing an attractive investment environment supported by a stimulating legal framework, simplified procedures, and continuous support for investors.

In this context, he highlighted the promising potential offered by the sector, calling on American companies to seize the available investment opportunities; whether in exploration and field development, or in downstream industries, digitalization, modern technological solutions, and carbon footprint reduction projects.

For his part, Mr. Christopher Landau expressed his satisfaction with the level of distinguished relations between Algeria and the United States, praising the positive business climate provided by Algeria and the confidence shown by American companies toward the Algerian market.
