The Minister of Mines and Mining Industries, Mourad Hanifi, received yesterday, Monday, in Algiers, the Assistant Secretary of State of the United States of America, Christopher Landau, who is currently on a working visit to Algeria, according to a ministry communiqué.
The meeting, held in the presence of the Secretary of State to the Minister of Mines and Mining Industries, Karima Bakir Tafer, as well as officials from both sides, provided an opportunity to discuss the state of bilateral cooperation in the field of mining and the mining industry, and the ways to strengthen and develop them.
Both parties also examined investment and partnership opportunities between companies from both countries, notably across the various segments of the mining sector's value chain. Particular focus was placed on the exploitation and transformation of mineral resources, especially strategic and critical minerals used in advanced technological industries and renewable energies.
On this occasion, Mr. Hanifi presented an overview of the main development axes for the sector in Algeria, reviewing current and future projects, as well as the legal framework governing mining activities and the investment facilities and incentives it provides within an attractive business climate.
To this end, he invited American companies to seize the opportunities offered and contribute to the development of the mining sector in Algeria.
Furthermore, both parties highlighted the importance of strengthening international cooperation in the mining field through intensified exchange of expertise and the promotion of pioneering experiences. This includes establishing partnerships between the Sonarem group and American companies or organizations specialized in mining exploration, exploitation, and valorization, particularly concerning strategic minerals and raw materials for advanced industrial use.
