The Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons, Mr. Mohamed Arkab, advocated on Wednesday for the necessity of activating scientific and technical partnerships with various specialized national bodies.

This came during an audience granted by Mr. Arkab to the Director of the National Higher School of Mathematics, Mr. Ahmed Medeghri.

In this context, the Minister emphasized the development of applied scientific research and its alignment with the economic and industrial needs of the sector. He also highlighted the importance of fostering innovation and the exchange of expertise and knowledge.

Discussions focused on ways to involve students and researchers in joint research projects and providing field internships for students within the sector's companies. In the presence of the international oil, gas, and energy expert, Mr. Mourad Preure, both parties explored the potential for developing continuous training programs.

The meeting also addressed the contribution of the school, located at the Sidi Abdellah University Hub, in supporting national capacities and valuing Algerian expertise. Future cooperation was discussed between the National Higher School of Mathematics and institutes under the hydrocarbons sector, specifically the Algerian Petroleum Institute (IAP) and the Sonatrach Management Academy.

Key areas of cooperation include:

  • Specialized training and applied scientific research.
  • Supervising students and developing national skills in mathematical modeling, digital simulation, and cryptography.
  • Data analysis and processing, particularly seismic data related to exploration and production activities in the hydrocarbons sector.

The two parties reaffirmed the importance of keeping pace with rapid technological shifts, especially in digitalization and Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications. This involves preparing highly qualified engineers and experts capable of meeting the sector's demands and global developments in modern specialties.

Furthermore, the meeting touched upon the international energy landscape, focusing on global oil and gas market trends, challenges related to geo-energetic shifts, and the energy transition. The importance of strengthening national capacities in analysis, forecasting, and strategic studies was also highlighted.
