Hull City, featuring Algerian international Mohamed Bachir Belloumi, secured their promotion to the English Premier League by defeating Middlesbrough with a last-minute goal (1-0) in the playoff final at Wembley on Saturday.

The "Tigers" were largely dominated by "Boro" in a match with few scoring opportunities, but they managed to find the net in stoppage time through Oliver McBurnie, who finished the season as the Championship's second-highest scorer.

Algerian international Belloumi played 76 minutes before being substituted by his manager.

Hull City, who finished 6th in the regular season, returns to the Premier League for the first time since their relegation in 2017. The team from northeast England had even dropped to the third tier in 2020 before climbing back up the following year.

In the playoff semi-finals, they eliminated 3rd-placed Millwall (0-0 at home, 2-0 away) thanks to a goal and an assist from Belloumi, before defeating 5th-placed Middlesbrough in the final.

Despite dealing with injuries throughout the season, Belloumi contributed three goals and four assists during the Championship campaign.

Middlesbrough had initially been eliminated in the semi-finals by Southampton (0-0, 2-1), but were reinstated following the "Saints'" exclusion, who were penalized for spying on their opponents' training sessions.

Coventry and Ipswich, finishing 1st and 2nd respectively at the end of the 46-match Championship season, had already secured their automatic promotion to the Premier League.
