Algeria's Karima Mekkaoui won the gold medal in the under-68 kg category (kumite) at the "Karate 1-Series A" championship, which concluded on Sunday in Guadalajara, Mexico, the Algerian Karate-Do Federation (AKF) announced.
Following an outstanding run, the Algerian athlete triumphed in the final against Egyptian champion Jana El Ghafary with a convincing score of 4-0.
This marks the second gold medal for Algerian karate-do at the tournament, following the one secured by Rayane Sekour in the under-50 kg category (kumite).
For his part, Mohamed Djemiati finished in fifth place in the under-84 kg category (kumite) after a remarkable performance and a strong showing against some of the world's elite athletes.
The "Karate 1 Series A" tournament in Guadalajara, Mexico, has established itself as a crucial event on the global sporting calendar.
This circuit allows athletes to earn valuable points to climb the WKF World Ranking and qualify for the exclusive Premier League circuit.
