Algeria is participating from May 26 to 28 in China in the 9th edition of ITB China Shanghai 2026, aiming to showcase its assets and enhance its appeal as a tourist destination, according to a statement released this Monday by the National Office of Tourism (ONT).

The same source clarified that "within the framework of implementing the national strategy aimed at promoting the Algerian tourist destination internationally and diversifying the sources of tourist influx, the tourism and handicrafts sector, represented by the National Office of Tourism (ONT) alongside 14 national tourism operators, is participating in the 9th edition of ITB China Shanghai 2026, scheduled to be held from May 26 to 28, 2026, in the People's Republic of China."

This participation falls "within the sector's strategic direction aimed at strengthening Algeria's positioning in high-potential tourism markets, especially the Chinese tourism market, which is considered one of the most prominent source markets for tourists globally due to its growing dynamism and large size."

The exhibition constitutes "a reference international professional platform that brings together major players in the travel and tourism industry. It provides a unique opportunity to showcase the cultural, natural, and tourism assets that Algeria abounds in, enhance communication with professionals and decision-makers, and build sustainable strategic partnerships that will support the attractiveness of the Algerian tourist destination and consolidate its presence in international markets."

In this context, "a national pavilion for Algeria has been dedicated, designed according to a modern architectural vision inspired by the richness and diversity of Algeria's cultural and civilizational heritage, highlighting the national identity and reflecting the authenticity and uniqueness of the Algerian tourist destination." The pavilion will also be equipped with "various modern technical and communication tools to ensure the implementation of a comprehensive promotional program and the display of a diverse range of media and interactive digital platforms that highlight Algeria's cultural, natural, and tourism qualifications."

The statement noted that visitors to the pavilion will be able to "engage in 3D virtual experiences of several Algerian tourist sites and landmarks, allowing them to discover the national tourism assets in a modern and interactive digital manner that reflects the level of development witnessed by the tourism sector in the field of digitization and smart promotion."

In the context of valuing the national heritage linked to traditional handicrafts, "a special space will be dedicated to the art of traditional ceramics through the organization of live workshops that reflect the richness of the Algerian cultural heritage and contribute to enhancing the appeal of the national tourist destination among international visitors and professionals."

This participation underscores the tourism and handicrafts sector's commitment to "continuing its efforts to strengthen Algeria's presence at major international tourism events and exhibitions, thereby contributing to opening new horizons for cooperation and partnership, and supporting Algeria's position as a promising tourist destination that combines authenticity, diversity, and modernity," the source concluded.
