Algeria will host tomorrow, Wednesday, the 5th Ministerial Meeting of the Steering Committee for the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP) project, bringing together the ministers in charge of hydrocarbons from Algeria, Nigeria, and Niger, according to a statement from the Ministry of Hydrocarbons.

As part of the ongoing coordination and consultation regarding this strategic continental project, the meeting will be attended by the Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons, Mr. Mohamed Arkab; Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Mr. Ekperikpe Ekpo; and Niger’s Minister of Petroleum, Mr. Hamadou Tinni.

The meeting will also see the participation of the CEO of Sonatrach, Mr. Noureddine Daoudi, as well as officials from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and Niger’s national oil company, Sonidep, alongside technical teams and experts from the three nations, the same source added.

This meeting will serve as an opportunity to review the progress of the TSGP project, particularly through the presentation of the feasibility study results conducted by the consultancy firm Penspen following a joint decision by the three countries. Furthermore, it will evaluate the implementation of the roadmap adopted during previous meetings held in Niamey, Abuja, and Algiers.

Discussions will also cover the outcomes of the 4th Ministerial Meeting of the Steering Committee, held in Algiers on February 11, 2025, which culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) where the three countries committed to continued coordination and joint action to realize this major project, the statement added.

The Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline is one of the most strategic energy projects in Africa, aimed at establishing a pipeline to transport natural gas from Nigeria, through Niger, to Algeria, enabling gas exports to European and other international markets.

Included within the framework of the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD), the project is expected to significantly bolster Africa's position as a major global energy supplier, while supporting economic development and regional integration among African nations.
