The newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Algeria, Mr. Min Kyung-tae, affirmed on Wednesday his country's readiness to support "New Algeria" in several vital sectors, including digital transformation, renewable energy, and the automotive industry, within the framework of a relationship built on trust and mutual respect.
In a press statement following the presentation of his credentials to the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Mr. Min Kyung-tae stated that he conveyed to the President the greetings of the President of the Republic of Korea, as well as the deep feelings of friendship and esteem held for Algeria and its people.
The ambassador expressed Korea's desire to "support the vision of New Algeria through promising opportunities for cooperation in renewable energy, desalination, smart agriculture, digital transformation, and advanced industry, including automotive and shipbuilding, as well as technology." He noted that South Korea possesses significant expertise in skill development and sustainable investment.
He further emphasized that "these fields require trust and long-term cooperation," noting that his country is "fully prepared to work with Algeria as a reliable partner, with full respect for its sovereignty and the independence of its strategic decisions."
Despite the geographical distance, the ambassador noted that the two peoples share important historical experiences, recalling that both nations "regained their freedom through resilience and will," making this shared memory the "foundation of a relationship based on trust and mutual respect."
He pointed out that 2026 marks the 20th anniversary of the Strategic Partnership established between the two countries, highlighting this milestone as an "opportunity to make our cooperation more dynamic and mutually beneficial."
Ambassador Min Kyung-tae also acknowledged Algeria as a "leading regional power in promoting stability, particularly in North Africa and the Sahel region," stating: "We recognize Algeria as an influential and leading voice in Africa, and we praise its commitment to solidarity, dialogue, and development across the continent. We look forward to working together on initiatives that bring sustainable benefits to Africa."
Beyond government-to-government cooperation, the ambassador stressed the need to strengthen the partnership by deepening ties between the two peoples. He recalled that throughout history, the Silk Road, along with Mediterranean and Saharan trade routes, helped connect civilizations through the exchange of goods, knowledge, and cultures. Consequently, South Korea seeks to deepen educational, cultural, and youth exchanges with Algeria to provide the strategic partnership with a stronger and more sustainable foundation.
He concluded by vowing to spare no effort to strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation, expressing his determination to "work hand-in-hand with the Algerian authorities, under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to make our strategic partnership more effective and beneficial for our peoples."
