The President of the High Authority for Transparency, Prevention and Fight Against Corruption, Salima Mesrati, received a delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) within the framework of the periodic consultations conducted by the Fund with Algeria under Article IV of its Articles of Agreement, according to a statement issued by the Authority on Monday.
The same source clarified that the meeting, which took place on Sunday evening in the presence of members of the High Authority’s council and its executives, provided an opportunity "to review the reforms initiated by Algeria, under the leadership of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in the field of enhancing transparency, good governance, and the prevention of corruption."
In this regard, the statement recalled the materialization of the President of the Republic's commitment to "moralizing public life, fighting corruption, and harmonizing the national legislative system with international standards. This has been achieved notably through the establishment of the High Authority for Transparency, Prevention and Fight Against Corruption, alongside the launch of numerous initiatives aimed at consolidating a culture of integrity and strengthening the national system for the prevention of corruption."
During the meeting, Ms. Mesrati gave a "presentation on the missions and prerogatives of the High Authority, and the most prominent programs and projects it oversees. Foremost among these are the National Strategy for Transparency, Prevention and Fight Against Corruption, the 'Nazaha' (Integrity) efficiency index, the draft regulatory text on transparency systems, the asset declaration and processing procedure, and mechanisms for reporting and notifying corruption suspicions. This is in addition to its efforts in the field of digital transformation through the development of the High Authority's electronic platforms."
She also touched upon—as noted in the statement—the Authority's programs in "the fields of awareness-raising, training, and accompanying ministerial sectors, public institutions, and civil society. Furthermore, she reviewed the preliminary results yielded by these efforts across a number of ministerial sectors and institutions, achieved by embedding a culture of corruption prevention, strengthening compliance and transparency mechanisms, and improving institutional performance, thereby contributing to establishing the principles of good governance and elevating the quality of public service."
For their part, the members of the IMF mission were briefed on "the Algerian experience in developing the national system for the prevention of corruption." They engaged in discussions with the High Authority's executives regarding "oversight mechanisms, the enhancement of transparency and the prevention of corruption, and the role played by the Authority in accompanying institutional reforms aimed at consolidating good governance and improving public performance," the statement concluded.
