The Minister of Tourism and Handicraft, Houria Meddahi, and the Minister of Vocational Training and Education, Nacima Arhab, co-chaired an evaluation meeting to review the outcomes of cooperation and partnership between the two sectors during the first half of 2026, a statement from the Ministry of Tourism indicated on Tuesday.
The meeting focused on the recommendations of the framework agreement signed on November 10, 2025, and the memorandum of understanding regarding the regularization of the status of tour guides, signed on January 6, 2026, the statement added.
On this occasion, Ms. Meddahi praised the efforts made by executives from both sectors to "execute the agreement, which resulted in several qualitative operations in the field of training aimed at key actors in the tourism sector, such as tour guides and artisans. This has made it possible to raise and improve the level of professionals and tourism operators, and ultimately to improve the quality of services."
For the Minister of Tourism, this agreement is part of the efforts of both sectors aimed at "organizing the professions and promoting human resources in line with the labor market, within the framework of the economic strategy aimed at diversifying the national economy, creating jobs, and realizing the 2026–2028 government plan."
She also emphasized that this training aims at "qualifying human resources capable of providing quality tourism services, developing tourism establishments, strengthening sustainability, integrating technology and innovation, modernizing tourism activity, and digitizing its structures, in order to consolidate digital transformation and promote 'Destination Algeria'."
For her part, the Minister of Vocational Training and Education reaffirmed "her sector's commitment to continue supporting professionals and artisans." She announced "the scheduling of new training sessions focused on digital marketing and professional photography for handicraft products, in addition to strengthening communication and language skills." Furthermore, she insisted on "prioritizing the provision of a qualified workforce that meets the requirements of the labor market."
Moreover, the statement specified that the recent period was marked by "the achievement of significant results in the field of training," and that "4,000 unlicensed tour guides have been identified, some of whom have already regularized their status, while the regularization process is still ongoing."
The meeting also featured a presentation on "the progress of the digital platform dedicated to tour guides," with the Minister of Tourism insisting on "the need to complete its development as soon as possible to ensure modern and effective management."
At the end of this meeting, emphasis was placed on "the continuation of joint coordination with a view to examining new training proposals in the fields of hospitality, catering, and thermal tourism, in order to ensure the protection and sustainability of the national product," the statement concluded.
