Algerian middle-distance runner Djamel Sedjati dominated his first 800-meter race of the year, clocking an impressive 1:43.19 to secure victory at the Gyulai István Memorial Grand Prix, a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting held on Tuesday afternoon in Hungary.
This outstanding performance confirms the rising momentum of the Paris 2024 Olympic bronze medalist. Sedjati recently secured a commendable third-place finish in the 1000-meter race at the Monaco Diamond League meeting for the 2026 season.
Earlier in the day, his compatriot Anis Chott competed in the highly anticipated 1500-meter race. Chott finished in 5th place but delivered a strong performance, crossing the finish line in 3:31.61 to set a new personal best.
The 1500m event was won by Kenyan runner Kipkosgei Koech with a time of 3:31.09, narrowly beating his compatriot Danson Quickly, who finished second at 3:31.10. Portuguese athlete José Carlos Pinto rounded out the podium, taking third place with a time of 3:31.47.
